Alan Garwood, Seckford Solutions - “Sharing is Protecting” - An introduction to Trusted Information Sharing" The phrase “Sharing is Protecting” when considering security issues sounds counterintuitive. However when approached in the right way in a trusted environment, sharing information about security incidents and threats can provide a clear benefit to those taking part. In this presentation Alan will provide examples of how Trusted Information Sharing can be used to provide an IT Security “Neighbourhood Watch” for both SMEs and large companies alike. James Verniquet James is the CEO of Digital Asset Security, based on Bentwaters Business Park (the old US airbase), Rendlesham. Qualified as a Certified Ethical Hacker, services include penetration tests, security audits and security awareness training. Trained as a locksmith, James also offers physical penetration tests.  James has over ten years’ experience in the education sector, working mainly abroad, teaching secondary and adult students. He has taught 9 different subjects, ranging from IT and Music Technology, to English Literature and Karate.  James is also a committee member of the BCS (British Computer Society) East Anglia branch, and is currently setting up an OWASP (Open Web Application Security Project) Chapter in Suffolk. He has an extensive background in IT Security, Internet/Intranet Operations and System Administration from the telecommunications, insurance and banking industries. Since 2003 Alan has worked on a number of UK Government and European initiatives to utilise Trusted Information Sharing techniques to improve the security of many different IT user groups. Always interested in how technology solutions can be used to foster an increase in Trusted Sharing, Alan pioneered the use of Information Rights Management technology within a Trusted Information Sharing system as part of the EU NEISAS project (
