‘Virtual Networks in 5G – Opportunities or Hype?’ Virtual Networks SIG Event – 8 February 2017November 7, 2016
Start date/time: 12:00 08 February 2017
End date/time: 17:00 08 February 2017
Venue: John Bray Lecture Theatre, Adastral Park
The 5th generation of mobile networks is intended to operate across many vertical markets; it is expected to impact every aspect of our lives and span many different industry sectors, from healthcare, transport, energy, agriculture to smart cities and citizen engagement. Traditional network models work well with a fixed set of services; but they can struggle to handle diverse requirements across flexible vertical markets, hence the virtual networking paradigm. We are delighted to have Maria Cuevas – Head of Core network and services research team BT speaking at this event. Other Speakers to be announced.
In this first, of a series of events, we will consider four of the key virtual networking concepts needed to deliver the 5G vision: network slicing (enabling vertical businesses to realise their requirements in seemingly isolated network slices), service agility (enabling businesses to deploy new services much faster than is possible in today’s networks), control without ownership (enabling businesses, including today’s facility rich operators, to act as operators with a minimal ownership of infrastructure) and context awareness (enriching network capabilities with new forms of service assurance by increasing their awareness of conditions, users, and environments). The initial insights provided by our four distinguished speakers will provide stepping stones for the deeper consideration of each area at the follow-on events of this SIG.
This event is FREE to attend, but is STRICTLY TICKET ONLY.
