PERSONAL PROFILE – John Wittgreffe
ICT Chief Researcher and Director of BT and Intel Co-Lab, BT Research and Technology
John is the Director of the BT and Intel Co-Lab and also runs BT’s Cloud Services research programme, which delivers new products and services to BT’s Global Services, Wholesale, and Retail lines of business.
John has 24 years of experience in the telecommunications industry, starting in opto-electronics in 1989, and has since held positions including IP-VPNs, eCommerce systems, telecommunications operational and business support systems, Service Oriented Infrastructure, Open Source, international collaborative projects, and also strategy and business development for BT’s Global Services business.
John holds 42 awards for research and innovation, including winner of the Telemanagement Forum Business Excellence Award for Innovation 2010, the IET Innovation Award for Telecommunications 2010, the UK IT Industry Award for Research 2009, and the Global Telecoms Business award for IT Services Innovation 2010. John’s recent research successes include BT’s current Cloud Services platform and BT’s current Wide Area Network Optimisation platform, both in widespread deployment across the globe for Global Services clients.
John has a first class honours degree in Physics from the University of York and lives in Woodbridge, Suffolk. John’s spare time is mostly taken up with his three sons, church, and hobbies including dance, piano, and banjo-uke.
