Silicon Safe, an Innovation Martlesham company based at Adastral Park and St John’s Innovation Centre, has made it into the finals for two awards at the Tech Trailblazer Awards 2014.

The company has developed an impenetrable hardware storage appliance that prevents theft of usernames and passwords during a cyber-attack and is the only non-US company on the Computing Storage award short list.

The underlying concept behind Silicon Safe is breathtakingly simple: hardware that allows secrets to be stored and verified, but never retrieved. Only the results of verification requests can leave the appliance, never the data itself. The protected information is isolated at the hardware level making it impossible to steal them. Because the appliance is hardware, it has no operating system, no privileged access, and data is safe whether encrypted or not.  It is impervious to Malware because there is no execution environment in which Malware can run. There are no back doors and no administrator overrides.
