A Picture Speaks A Thousand Words

Chronicle Digital Storytelling  is pleased to announce its latest product, the Chronicle Memory Box. The Memory Box enables people to bring printed photographs to life by adding a voice or audio recording.

????????????????????????????

Playing back memories is as simple as tapping the photo onto the box – easy enough for everyone to use without the complexities of apps, iPads or smartphones.

Chronicle founder, John Royle, said “Looking at old photos of past memories, the story can often get lost. Our memory box lets people preserve these stories in their own voice or those of their loved ones.”

John was inspired to develop the product after finding an old cassette tape with a recording of his grandfather.

“My grandfather died almost 40 years ago so when I discovered an old cassette tape with a recording of him wishing my grandmother a Happy Birthday, I was bowled over to hear his voice again. For a brief moment I got to share a smile with him again after all these years. My own children also now know what their great grandfather sounded like. Chronicle is all about helping people to record their memories, so creating the Memory Box was a natural product for us.”

Each Memory Box is carefully crafted to a high standard and personalised to the client; bringing a range of innovative technologies together with traditional techniques to create a product that is as precious as the memories it seeks to preserve.

“We deliberately tried to keep the Memory Box as traditional as possible, but leveraging the latest technologies to aid production. For example, some casing elements are 3D printed and the speaker grills are laser cut.”

In terms of uses, John hopes the boxes will bring benefits to families and particularly people at risk of loneliness and isolation. In addition, John is exploring the benefits of the product with people facing dementia and as an educational tool in schools.

The Memory Box is officially being launched at the Alzheimer’s Show at Olympia in London in June, but as Chronicle is part of BT’s Innovation Martlesham tech cluster, John will be giving a preview of the Box at the Suffolk Show (BT’s Stand 52).
