A Guest’s View To An Innovation Martlesham Networking EventJanuary 2, 2019
David Higgins, founder of a Cyber Security Consultancy runs his successful business as well as working with other interested parties in setting up a “Cyber Security Cluster for Norfolk and Suffolk”. Still at the “early stages” of development, David has high hopes it will be up and running properly by the early new year. David told Nicky Daniels, Head of Innovation Martlesham (IM), that despite an early start from North Norfolk he had a brilliant introduction to IM at the monthly IM Breakfast Event on Tuesday 6th November. The breakfast briefing (preceded by good coffee, lovely biscuits and hot bacon rolls) featured two excellent speakers on the subject of “Smart Cities”. Paul Putland, BT, discussed the connectivity in Manchester and Milton Keynes, whilst Gary Atkinson, CEO of Enlight, explained the benefits of the “mesh network” in a rural environment using street lights as the “masts” with clever sensors linked via software to the environmental management of the city. Stunning stuff – with plenty of “food for thought” which showed in the Q&A sessions.
David stayed with Innovation Martlesham to enjoy another session being run that day by IM. “Raising finance” was the basis of the second in the IM Knowledge Sharing series of events. Four great speakers discussed the “how and where” of raising finance with two particularly fascinating stories from Dominic Keen (Britbots) and Kevin Gooding (OXEMS) – both real life stories and yet to be concluded.
David is looking forward to IM’s 2019 programme of events that kicks off with Jim Marshall, CEO MarshallWolfe on 5th February talking about “Happiness, well-being and performance are ‘juxta-buddies’ not conflicting desires. How to Build a High Performing Team!”
